What can I expect when I stop smoking?

2 Hours

The nicotine will be gone from your blood stream.

6 hours

Your heart beat will slow down and your blood pressure will go down a little (although it may take 30 days before it returns to normal level)

24 Hours

The carbon monoxide that has bonded to your red blood cells is excreted from your body. The efficiency of your lungs will improve

48 Hours

Your sense will improve sharply. You will start to feel and smell fresher.

3 Days

The phlegm that has accumulated in your lungs will start to loosen and during the next few weeks you will cough it up. Cilla, the microscopic hair-like structures that are you body's natural cleaning mechanisms, will start to recover after being paralysed be cigarette smoke.

3 Weeks

A test of your lung function would show it has improved markedly.

2 Months

The blood flow to your limbs will have improved and you should have more energy.
